Alison Wells

Mezzo-Soprano

Yorkshire-born Alison Wells originally trained as a pianist. She made her debut in the Park Lane Group’s Young Artists Series and spent four years as a member of the BBC Singers. Well-known in the field of contemporary music, she has sung with all of this country’s leading ensembles and with many abroad. She has premiered many works and recorded more than 20 discs. Recent recordings have been Silvina Milstein’s Fire Dressed in Black with Lontano; Camden Reeves’s Night Descending with Gemini and Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and Das Buch der hängenden Gärten with Firebird on the UHRecordings label. Recent performances have been Le marteau sans mâitre as part of Boulez in Birmingham; Pierrot Lunaire with Kokoro, Deirdre Gribbin’s Crossing the Sea at Wilton’s Music Hall, Walton’s Façade with Gemini. Alison is a professor in the vocal faculty at Trinity College of Music.
