Sophie Parkes - Spiral Earth, 2010

"Blue Beginnings marks an interesting departure for Dave Delarre and one that shows versatility and skill"

Liz Ozman - Bright Young Folk, 2010

David Hintz - Folk World, 2010

Album notes:

Qualeys Seven (D. Delarre)
Inspired by the formidable playing of David Qualey I spent a long time wanting to write something in his style, then this popped out of my head about 3 days before the first recording session.

Cincinnati Flow Rag / Princess Royal (G.Davis arr D. Delarre / Trad. arr D.Delarre)
This is a cheeky mash up of folk from America and England, I wanted to fuse the both to show that all folk is the same really, the second tune has been learnt through osmosis from my many years playing folk music, its a morris dance tune (Stop Laughing!).

The Pearl (P. Cunningham arr D. Delarre)
This lovely little air was picked up from the gorgeous playing of Phil and Johnny Cunningham (fiddle and accordion duo from Scotland). Phil wrote it for their parents Pearl anniversay, I heard it on an old tape of my Dads, fell in love with it and had to arrange it for guitar.

Blue Beginnings (Part One) (D. Delarre)
I had been fooling around with these bluesy licks for years but never managed to put it together in a cohesive piece (still not thoroughly convinced I've achieved it!) I wanted to attempt to put depressing blues and happy blues together with a bit of contemporary guitar inbetween... hmmm.

Blue Beginnings (Part Two) (D. Delarre)
The happy side to blues! I wrote this as I was breaking up with my girlfriend of 4 years, I was feeling quite blue and wanted to cheer myself up, so I decided to lift my spirits by writing the most happiest chord sequence I could think of! ..it worked.

Four Years (D. Delarre)
During aforementioned break up, I found myself playing this depressingly bizarre piece in the dark in my living room for hours!

Dark Mornings and Bright Nights (D. Delarre)
This piece was written on a very early morning / very late night a few days before I started working on this record.. I had just moved to Cambridge and was feeling hopeful at the time.. I think that sentiment is reflected in the music. This track is for Emma.
